Nevada Crimes by Code Section

In Nevada, State lawmakers from the Senate and Assembly have enacted legislation, or “laws,” that in theory give rise to the ability for State Government to file criminal charges when necessary and appropriate. A majority of these crimes are governed by the Nevada Revised Statutes or “NRS” as they are commonly referred. The Nevada Revised Statutes “codify” the laws and allow prosecutorial agencies, such as the District Attorney’s Office or Attorney General’s office, to initiate the filing of formal criminal charges in a Court of law. Once a charge is filed, the person accused, known as the Defendant, will receive a copy of the filed charges in a document called a Criminal Complaint. The Nevada Revised Statutes is broken down by title and chapter. The portions of the NRS dealing with “Crime and Punishment” are found in Title 15 of the Nevada Revised Statutes. The individual crimes detailed in Title 15 are broken down even further by chapter, having to do with the type of crime alleged. These chapters are as follows:
