Bulk Cash Smuggling
While the term “smuggling” may strike up archaic images of sneaking across a border at night, or pirates on the high seas, the reality is that the United States Government has very stringent standards regarding bringing currency into the country and will aggressively prosecute allegations of bringing cash across the border.
In Las Vegas, and throughout the United States, the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (also known as “ICE”) intently monitors and investigates every item, package and person that enters or departs the borders of the United States.
In many cases, there are strict regulations governing the transportation of goods, including money, and other items across a border. If a person intentionally seeks to evade the control of ICE, or any other governmental agency, in order to transport a controlled item across United States borders, they may be investigated or charged with the crime of “smuggling” or “trafficking.” In allegations involving with large amounts of cash, the crime is referred to as “bulk cash smuggling.”
At the Las Vegas Federal Criminal Defense firm of Hofland& Tomsheck, we have successfully represented individuals charged with this unique crime. We have achieved complete dismissals of serious felony charges without our client having to proceed to trial. To defend against these difficult charges, it is important that you retain a knowledgeable defense attorney who is licensed and experienced in both Nevada State and Federal courts.
